Our efforts in advancing wheat breeding get renewed support

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) National Institute of Food and Agriculture (NIFA) has awarded our consortium of 41 wheat breeders and researchers from 22 institutions in 20 states a $15 million grant to fund a research project focused on breeding wheat better adapted to the challenges imposed by climate change. To this end, we will implement and adapt a series of technologies such as drone imagery and phenotyping, high-throughput genotyping, genomic selection programs and the development of public database tools. The project will also contribute to the next generation of wheat breeders by training a cohort of 20 plant Ph.D. students.
